Carnelle Scott, the declasse heroine of the southern comedy, desperately dreams of winning the town’s beauty pageant to erase the sniggering title of “Miss Hot Tamale” that her past indiscretions have earned her. Her dysfunctional family and friends are a whole lot of fun to watch as they blunder through what promies to be the latest – and greatest – fiasco of her life. Pulitzer Prize-winning Beth Henley delivers a powerful message about appearances and acceptance, and the search for one’s true identity.

The Children’s Hour

Unhinged Theatre
2016/2017 Season

  • By: Lillian Hellman
  • Directed by: Maddy Brown & Aella Rose-Hill
  • Dates: May 16-19

A private school for young girls is scandalized when one spiteful student, Mary Tilford, accuses the two young women who run the school of having a lesbian relationship. This explosive drama written by the virtuosic Lillian Hellman made waves when it premiered in 1934. Herself a target of the McCarthy era blacklisting of Hollywood and Broadway artists, to Hellman this was a play about the evil power of slander.
